Home not shelter!
2016
The conceptual work of the Home not Shelter! initiative on new forms of living for refugees and students lead to an experimental implementation in Vienna during the summer 2016. In the Austrian capital the Home not Shelter! initiative succeeded in converting an existing office building into a communal dormitory that is now operated by a charity. A project idea that emerged as an Austrian contribution to the 2016 Architecture Biennale was taken up and continued. This publication shows the remarkable collaboration between those involved, from the house owner to the operator, the participating universities, a foundation, the students and the refugees, and documents the entire process. The result is a convincing model project for alternative and participatory forms of creating spaces for arriving and living together in transition.
